چکیده

The formulaton of a multi-layer primitive equation model on the sphere is described. The horizontal representation is by means of spherical harmonics, truncated either in the triangular or rhomboidal manner. The time integration is performed using the semi-implicit method in which the linearized gravity wave terms are time averaged and thus the fast moving waves of this type are slowed. For a Slayer hemispheric model with triangular truncation at wavenumber 21, storage of 38K words is needed and with the time scheme allowing a time-step of 90 minutes, one day's simulation requires 11 seconds of CDC 7600 time. The growth of a baroclinic wave on a simple basic state of differential solid body rotation is exhibited. The errors involved in this case in utilizing the large time-step allowed by the semi-implicit scheme are thoroughly examined by comparing wave amplitudes and phases, conservation properties and gravity wave treatment for different time-steps. These errors are found to be negligible. The conservation properties of the model are in fact extremely good. The vertical finite differencing scheme of Arakawa is studied in the same baroclinic instability simulation. The growth is similar though the conservation of angular momentum is greatly improved. The transform method used in all these integrations allows some aliasing. but this is shown to be negligible.

A Non-linear Static Equivalent Model for Multi-layer Annular/Circular Graphene Sheet Based on Non-local Elasticity Theory Considering Third Order Shear Deformation Theory in Thermal Environment

In this paper, it is tried to find an approximate single layer equivalent for multi-layer graphene sheets based on third order non-local elasticity theory. The plates are embedded in two parameter Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation, and also the thermal effects are considered. A uniform transverse load is imposed on the plates. Applying the non-local theory of Eringen based on third order she...

A Multi-Physics Simulation Model Based on Finite Element Method for the Multi-Layer Switched Reluctance Motor

Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, a multi-physics simulation model based on finite element method (FEM) is introduced for the multi-layer switched reluctance motor (SRM) in the present paper. The simulation model is created totally in ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) as a parametric model usable for various conventional types of this motor and it is included electromagnetic, therm...

Semi-implicit time-integrators for a scalable spectral element atmospheric model

The Naval Research Laboratory’s spectral element atmospheric model (NSEAM) for scalable computer architectures is presented. This new dynamical core is based on a high-order spectral element (SE) method in space and uses semi-implicit methods in time based on either the traditional second-order leapfrog (LF2) or second-order backward difference formulas (BDF2). The novelties of NSEAM are: it is...

Scientific Flow Field Simulation of Cruciform Missiles Through the Thin Layer Navier Stokes Equations

The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...

Adaptive Spectral Separation Two Layer Coding with Error Concealment for Cell Loss Resilience

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...
